Internships Intern with the largest museum theatre program in the country, at America’s most prestigious cultural institution! The Smithsonian Associates’ Discovery Theater presents an 11 month season of over 30 educational programs for children with 300 performances weekdays and some weekends. As an intern you learn by doing, training and utilizing skills in Box Office, House Management, Production Assistance and Arts Administration. Group ticket phone sales, project management skills, editing and proofing in an intimate office setting are also part of the average day. Opportunity for hands-on work abounds in a small educational theatre setting. This unpaid Smithsonian internship can be arranged for full-time or part-time (allowing for additional part-time employment) for partial term, full term or summer semesters. Be a part of the team that brings cultural, heritage, and traditional arts to 50,000 children a year in the nation’s capital. Work in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. on the National Mall. The S. Dillon Ripley Center (click here for map), which houses Discovery Theater, is a surprisingly complex underground learning center featuring performance spaces, galleries, arts studios, classrooms and offices. Explore the Smithsonian’s museums and participate in a myriad of events in Washington’s ever growing theatre community.
