Lesole’s Dance Project brings tribal dances of the Zulu homelands to Discovery Theater: Gumboot, the coal miners’ infectious dance from deep underground; and Panstula, the super-cool dance from the street corners of Johannesburg. 

A Closer Look – About the Artists:

Lesole’s (pronounced La-soul-ay) Dance Project (LDP) is a non-profit organization, founded by Lesole Z. Maine in 2003.  The company of six dancers received The Washington Post grant, bringing the Arts to our Community.  The Company creates and performs works that highlight the unique qualities of modern and Afro-Fusion style of dance and provide educational programs of movement and history of popular South African dances such as; (Stomp South Africa) Gumboots, Indlamu, and Pantsula.
 
The company has performed throughout the Washington, DC metro area including Dance Africa DC-Dance Place, Univ. of Maryland, Black Leadership Council of Excellence, National Museum of African Art, Philadelphia, PA, The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and most recently Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
