Join us on an adventure through the neighborhood led by our favorite community helpers. We'll meet the crossing guard, the librarian, and all become volunteer firefighters. Recycled crafting and interactive songs make this community day the perfect blend of learning and just plain fun! One of our Discovery Plays for your youngest learners.
Connections to the Classroom: Literacy; Numeracy; Social-emotional Learning; Music; Call and Response; Theater/Performing Arts
Bring this show to your school, library, or community center May 1 to 24, 2025!

About the Play: In 2013, Discovery Theater developed an innovative arts/education program for DCPS early education teachers and their students in classrooms which implemented the "Tools of the Mind" curriculum. Multiple plays were created as part of in-school residencies promoting creativity, enriched play, and student-led inquiry in early childhood classrooms. These plays are now presented at the Smithsonian as 'Discovery Plays' for our youngest learners to encourage everyone to 'get into the act.' Playing 'pretend' as characters in stories encourages sequencing (what comes next?), verbal skills (what color flowers? why did it happen like that?), math (how many cupcakes? let's count the pennies we need to buy the balloon!), and problem solving (how can we help?).
The 2023-2024 Discovery Theater Season is made possible by a generous grant from the Nora Roberts Foundation
Please check back! The Learning Guide should be posted at least 2 weeks before the show.
