Each year, Discovery Theater takes a few of our favorite productions on
the road! You can book one of these programs to come to your school

African Roots, Latino Soul
Hispanic Heritage Month

Recommended for Ages 6-13
A vibrant montage of images and characters, this warm, passionate play explores
what it means to be Latino, Black and proud growing up in the heart of the American
melting pot. Written with the Young Playwrights’ Theater, this is a must-see
insight into the challenges—and triumphs—experienced by today’s
multicultural youth.
Going the Distance
The Triumph of Jesse Owens and Wilma Rudolph
Tour Dates: January-February, 2010
Recommended for Ages 5-12
Race to the finish line with two black Olympians who changed history! Soaring
music and the exhilaration of world-class sports inspire us all to greatness
in this vivid portrayal of the lives of Jesse Owens and Wilma Rudolph. Watch
them overcome childhood illness, infirmity, and poverty to become the world’s
fastest man and fastest woman to win the Olympic Gold Medal.
Lions of Industry
African American inventors and entrepreneurs
Tour Dates: February – March, 2010
Recommended for Ages 7-15
Written by playwright Jacqueline Lawton, Discovery Theater’s new Black
History Month show explores the intrigue and genius of African American inventors
and entrepreneurs like hair product innovator Madame C.J. Walker, agricultural
chemist George Washington Carver, and even George Crum, inventor of the potato
chip. In this compelling show about the brilliance and innovation of America’s
African American ancestors, these great minds speak directly to the future—our
children—and inspire the dreamers and achievers in us all.
Bessie Coleman: On Freedom’s Wings

Recommended for Ages 6-14
In this one woman show, the hopes and dreams of a young sharecropper's
daughter of African American and Cherokee heritage, shows us that
the sky’s the
limit. Share her accomplishments and adventures as the first African American
women pilot trains in France and captures the hearts of Americans.
